Body Language: Clothing
Strictly speaking, clothing is of course not a part of your body. But since your body is largely wrapped in it, your clothing does affect the way you come across.
Not only the content of your message, but also the way it is wrapped determines the effect. You're clothing, being such a large factor in that wrapping, is important in your appearance and therefore the effect you have on others.
This is of course the main reason why people put on their nicest clothes when they go for a job interview. By selecting your clothing carefully, you more or less show you're a person that can be trusted and respected.
It is also true the other way around. If during the weekend you meet a succesfull business man or an important scientist in a super market, dressed in a dirty sports outfit and old sneakers, you'll have a different impression of that person than when she wears a fancy outfit.
So you can use your clothing as a way to distinguish yourself from others. This can be achieved by changing only a few details. Sommige politicians try to become extra recognisable by not wearing a tie or by wearing a bow tie.
